The Gesunde Region Vorau lies nestled between the Wechsel and Masenberg massifs in a hilly, forested country around 25 km north of the district capital Hartberg.
The Augustinian abbey and library, which was founded in 1163, offers those interested in culture a unique attraction. More than 40,000 books, a valuable medieval manuscript collection including the world-famous Kaiserchronik (Chronicle of Emperors) make Vorau Abbey a one off for Europe.
The abbey church and sacristy, which was built in 1660-1662, is also worth seeing. The rich wall and ceiling frescoes, altars, pulpit and paintings produce a baroque opulence that every visitor marvels at.
