Festenburg 1
8251 Bruck/Lafnitz
Austria
This Joglland jewel was founded in around 1200. In the Baroque period, the Festenburg was rebuilt as a religious site and served as the last earthly abode for former Augustinian Canons. Today the Festenburg is famous for its rich fresco decoration: Johann C. Hackhofer painted the damp lime mortar so skilfully that even 21st century visitors feel the presence of Baroque lay piety with a rare intensity.
